Fresh ‘n’ Funky DIY Face Masks

Oh HAYYY ma partyy people!

HAH. no. jks. Well actually, good on you if you still have the energy and effort to go out. I think i’ve officially become a lethargic homebody at 22. Agh. Anyway, I digress..

So here’s my easy go-to 3 Easy DIY Face Masks for AALLL Skin Types! I use these recipes on myself all the time, especially when my bananas start to look a little unloved or black or squishy, but usually all of the above, and you don’t want to make another banana bread to eat all by yourself… sigh… Hahha.

For this video, I didn’t want it to just be another somewhat standard ‘How To’ DIY video. So I thought of different ways to make it more fun and interesting and interactive and came up with the idea to make the ingredients aliiive – and make them dance and jump and squirm and bust a mooove! 🙂

So just to give you guys a little insight into how this was done.. I pretty much took 400+ photo’s of the ingredients frame by frame. Meaning, I would move the individual ingredients according to how I wanted them to move around on screen cm by cm, marginal movements.

Yes. T’was quite tedious indeed, haaah.

RECIPES

AVOCADO MASK  – Smoothing & Softening
½ avocado (mashed)
1 tbsp honey
1 slice of lemon
1 tsp olive oil

BANANA + OATMEAL MASK – Soothing & Exfoliating
½ mashed banana
¼ cup oatmeal
1 tbsp. honey or lemon juice
1 egg

CACAO + YOGHURT MASK – Brightening & Blemish
1 tbsp organic cacao powder
1 tsp honey (for dry skin) or lemon juice (for oily skin)
2 tbsp yoghurt (plain or greek)

Ingredients and their advantages:

Avocado

  • This fruit contains lots of minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium, sodium, copper, magnesium, etc.
  • It also contains vitamins A, E, B and K – the result of this special cocktail of vitamins is that the avocado face mask reaches the deepest layers of the epidermis and gives elasticity even to the driest skin

Honey 

  • Problematic/acne skin – Honey is naturally antibacterial, so it’s great for acne treatment and prevention
  • Aging – full of antioxidants, it is great for slowing down aging
  • Complexion boost – it is eextremely moisturizing and soothing, so it helps create a glow
  • Pores – honey is clarifying because it opens up pores making them easy to unclog
  • Honey is a great anti-bacterial agent, deeply cleanses your skin and opens up clogged pores

Cacao

  • raw cacao actually has more antioxidant power than wine, greentea and berries, combined! – antioxidant-rich foods like raw cacao are a vital part of the diet because they help repair damage to your skin tissue
  • packed with antioxidants that help repair skin cells and neutralize harmful free radicals

Oatmeal

  • Exfoliator treatment – if over-the-counter scrubs leave your skin raw and red, try exfoliating with oatmeal to get the same cleansing and buffering property without all the unnecessary harshness
  • Oatmeal contains both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and as such is ideal for most skin types – even the most sensitive skin – and to treat a variety of skin disorders (e.g. sunburns and eczema), acne and rashes
  • Oatmeal is moisturizing and helps remove dead skin cells
  • It has emulsifying and foaming abilities (saponins)
  • Absorbs excess oils on skin’s surface
  • Gently removes peeling skin and nourishes dry and withered skin
  • Exfoliates and lubricates skin

Yoghurt

  • Zinc – can help reduce red swellings caused by acne or rashes and also helps to regulate oil production in the glands, therefore preventing frequent acne breakouts
  • Calcium – contains antioxidants that protect and heal dry skin and facilitates skin renewal
  • Lactic acid – exfoliates and moisturizes skin to make it smoother
  • B Vitamins – keeps skin glowing, hydrated and is necessary for cell growth and regeneration

Bananas 

Contains: potassium, B-vitamins, vitamin A and C, Amino acids and zinc

  • Skin moisturizer
  • Oil control
  • Anti-aging
  • Treat acne
  • Lighten dark spots

SO, if I haven’t convinced you to try any or all of these at least once, then i’m all out of ideas… Haha.
